Acute otitis externa is not recommended to use dexamethasone sodium phosphate injection to reduce swelling, can be used topically with ichthyol glycerin to reduce swelling.
When the ear canal is red and swollen in acute otitis externa, local ichthyol glycerin or purple decongestant cream gauze can be applied to reduce inflammation and swelling. If the severe redness and swelling affects the drainage, gauze drainage strips can be placed into the external auditory canal so that the medication can flow along the drainage strips into the deeper part of the external auditory canal.
Dexamethasone sodium phosphate injection is mostly used for active rheumatism, lupus erythematosus, severe bronchial asthma, ulcerative colitis, etc. Prolonged use of the drug may lead to medical Cushing’s syndrome face and posture, weight gain, swelling of the lower limbs, nausea and vomiting, inhibition of growth in children and exacerbation of diabetes mellitus, with a high number of side effects, and is therefore not recommended.
