If the patient develops an infection in the incision within 1-5 days, or if the patient develops an infection in the incision after five days, the incision pain may worsen and the patient may develop a fever. In such cases, the patient needs to have the incision explored, if necessary, to see if there is an abscess or infection under the incision and deeper. If there is infection or abscess formation, further management is required.
