Ribs hurt when you breathe and exert yourself after being hit may be caused by closed fracture of ribs, open fracture of ribs, injury to soft tissues and so on.
1. Closed rib fracture: when breathing and exertion, ribs are pulled by surrounding tissues, ribs may be displaced, irritating and compressing intercostal nerves. It causes pain inside the ribs of the chest.
2. Open fracture of ribs: If the open fracture of ribs is caused by trauma, then during breathing and exertion, the broken ends of ribs may irritate pleura, nerves and soft tissues, resulting in pain and discomfort.
3. Soft tissue injury: muscle strain is the most common condition that causes breathing pain. Pectoralis major, pectoralis minor, intercostal muscles are the respiratory movement of the thorax, if sudden violent coughing, sneezing, physical fatigue, strenuous exercise, etc., will cause intercostal muscle flesh damage. If the intercostal muscle flesh is damaged, then breathing can cause pain inside the rib cage.
If the patient’s symptoms of pain with breathing and exertion after a rib impingement are severe, or if the symptoms persist and do not improve, the patient should go to the hospital in time for treatment.
