Taste and efficacy of Sempervivum

The Chinese herb Semen Nelumbo, with pungent and bitter taste and cold nature, is attributed to the lung, liver and kidney meridians. It is mainly used clinically as 10g-15g of dried or 30g-60g of fresh product in water decoction. It can be used for the treatment of furuncles, canker sores, swelling and pain, snake and insect bites, etc. It can be taken internally or used externally, and the fresh product can be pounded and applied externally to wounds. Half-branch lotus can also be used to treat abdominal distension and edema, but it is prohibited for patients with cold evidence of deficiency leading to edema.
