How to manage high parathyroid hormone after thyroidectomy

High parathyroid hormone may be caused by parathyroid adenoma, hypocalcemia, etc. It has little relation with post-thyroidectomy, and needs to be treated after clarification of the cause of the disease, such as parathyroid adenoma which needs to be surgically removed.
1. Parathyroid adenoma: parathyroid adenoma can cause elevation of parathyroid hormone, which can be treated by surgery under doctor’s guidance to remove the lesion and improve the symptoms.
2. Hypocalcemia: Elevated parathyroid hormone level after surgery, accompanied by low blood calcium and high blood phosphorus, is common in pseudohypoparathyroidism, which is mainly treated with medication and calcium and vitamin D supplementation.
Therefore, when parathyroid hormone is elevated after thyroidectomy, it is recommended to go to the hospital to find out the cause of the disease and actively cooperate with the doctor to receive treatment.
