How long before the onset of ventricular fibrillation is life threatening

Ventricular fibrillation is usually life-threatening if not treated promptly and lasts 4 to 6 minutes.
1. Ventricular fibrillation is the most serious arrhythmia. During an attack, the ventricles of the heart flutter rapidly and uncoordinated, at a rate of 250-600 beats per minute.
2. The heart loses its normal ejection capacity, resulting in weakened or absent heart sounds and pulse, and reduced blood supply to vital organs, especially the brain. Irreversible brain damage occurs within 4-6 minutes after the loss of blood supply, and the transition to biological death can take place in a few minutes.
3. The causes of ventricular fibrillation can be categorized into cardiac and non-cardiac causes. The most common cause of cardiac ventricular fibrillation is coronary heart disease, and myocardial ischemia can easily trigger ventricular fibrillation; whereas, non-cardiac causes of ventricular fibrillation can be caused by severe electrolyte and acid-base balance disorder, drowning and electrocution, poisoning and allergy, as well as surgical accidents.
If ventricular fibrillation occurs, immediately call 120 for emergency care, and immediately give CPR and defibrillation. After transportation to the hospital, further resuscitation measures and post-resuscitation treatment are continued.
