The Chinese Medical Association’s Division of Diabetes recommends that to prevent microvascular complications of type 2 diabetes, the target glycated haemoglobin value for the general population should be less than 7.0%.
People at high risk of cardiovascular disease should have regular blood glucose monitoring or a glucose tolerance test to detect diabetes or pre-diabetes status early and intervene in a timely manner.
Patients with diabetes should control their diet, increase physical activity and add oral hypoglycaemic drugs or subcutaneous insulin injections to control blood glucose if necessary.
Patients with diabetes combined with hypertension should have their blood pressure controlled to below 130/80 mmHg and should be treated with antihypertensive medication if their blood pressure is ≥140/90 mmHg.
