Head shaking in babies is related to, but not definitely caused by, inner ear vestibular development. The vestibule of the inner ear is a system that controls the body’s equilibrium, and as they grow, children may shake their heads a lot to stimulate vestibular development. If they shake their heads during the day, this is normal and may be related to inner ear vestibular development. If they shake their heads at night, it may be due to sleep discomfort, head itching, vitamin D deficiency or calcium deficiency. For example, if the baby sweats too much and is not washed in time, or if the sweating causes eczema, he may shake his head due to itching. Or babies may feel uncomfortable and shake their heads because the temperature of the sleeping environment is not appropriate, the baby has the intention to defecate or the diaper is not changed in time. Therefore, to determine whether head shaking is caused by vestibular development, a comprehensive judgment should be made based on the parents’ observation and examination results. If the baby has other symptoms, he/she should go to the hospital for examination and treatment.
