Methods of resetting a dislocated jaw

Jaw dislocation refers to the dislocation of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). The methods of TMJ dislocation reset include manipulation and surgical reset. 1. Manipulation (1) Intraoral reset method: the two thumbs are wrapped around gauze or other fabrics to extend into the mouth (to prevent being bitten), placed on the occlusal surfaces of the teeth on both sides, the two thumbs are exerted at the same time, the lower teeth are pressed downward, and the rest of the four fingers push the chin upward, so as to make the condylar process arc and turn to the horizontal position, and then push the lower jaw backward, and the thumbs are quickly slid to the sides to be reset. (2) Extra-oral reset method: the two thumbs are placed on the anterior edge of the raised condyle on both sides, the index finger and middle finger hold the angle of the mandible, the ring finger and little finger hold the lower edge of the mandibular body, the thumb forcefully squeezes the condyle downward, and the rest of the four fingers work together to push the angle of the mandible and the mandibular body backward and upward to reset the mandible. 2. Surgical repositioning: if manipulative repositioning is not feasible, surgical repositioning can be chosen. After reset, we should pay attention to whether the teeth are normally closed or not, if they can be closed, that is, the reset is successful. Reset should be carried out by a professional doctor, do not reset on your own.
