Remedies for upper heat and lower cold

Formulas for treating upper heat and lower cold include Wu Mei Wan and Huang Lian Tang.
1. Wu Mei Wan is a formula from the chapter of Syncopal Disease (a disease caused by the invasion of the syncopal meridian by an exogenous pathogen) in the Treatise on Typhoid Fever. The composition of this formula includes Wu Mei, Xin Xin, Gui Zhi, Huang Lian, Huang Bai, Angelica Sinensis, Radix et Rhizoma Ginseng, Shu Jiao, Gan Ginger and Radix et Rhizoma Pantotrichum.
The main function of Wu Mei Wan is to clear the upper part of the body and warm the lower part of the body, which can calm roundworms and relieve pain; therefore, it is used for treating the disease of upper heat and lower cold, and the internal disturbance of roundworms; the specific manifestations of this disease include heartburn, vomiting, abdominal pain, syncope and coldness of the hands and feet, and a weak pulse.
2. Huanglian Tang, the medicines in this formula include Huanglian, Gui Zhi, Gan Jiang, Semixia, Ginseng, Licorice and Jujube. This drug is a representative formula for treating stomach heat and intestinal cold. In the formula, Huang Lian is bitter and cold to clear heat, and Dried Ginger is pungent and hot to warm and cold, and the two medicines are the monarchs. Gui Zhi warms and unblocks qi, Bian Xia lowers the rebelliousness and stops vomiting (stops the upward rush of stomach qi and stops vomiting), and Ginseng, Jujubes, and Glycyrrhiza tonifies the spleen and stomach.
