How to treat emphysema in Chinese medicine

The treatment of emphysema varies in severity and urgency, and a combination of Chinese and Western medicine is recommended. In TCM, emphysema belongs to the category of “lung distension”. It can be treated with Xiao Qing Long Tang, San Zi Nourishing Relatives Tang, Su Zi Descending Qi Tang, Yue Ma Zi Plus Half Xia Tang, Cleansing Phlegm Tang, Drabanemerosa Dazao Lung Laxative Tang, Zhen Wu Tang, and Ping Asthma and Fixing the Origin Tang, etc. The symptoms of pulmonary emphysema are often accompanied by coldness and internal drinking.

Phlegm clouding the mind is often accompanied by drowsiness, indifference, hazy consciousness and restlessness. This formula can be used to clear phlegm, open the orifices and quench wind.
Phlegm and blood stasis obstructing the lungs, mostly accompanied by shortness of breath and inability to lie down, gray and dark face, purple lips and nails. Drabanemerosa hebecarpa and Jujube Lung Laxative Soup can be used to clear phlegm and remove phlegm from the lungs to alleviate asthma (by regulating the qi of the lungs to alleviate asthma).
Yang deficiency with water flooding (Yang deficiency causing obstruction to the flow of water in the body) is often accompanied by swelling of the face or limbs, abdominal distension or ascites, scanty urination and palpitation. Zhen Wu Tang can be used to warm the kidney, strengthen the spleen and promote diuresis.
Lung and kidney qi deficiency syndrome, mostly accompanied by shortness of breath, dyspnea, mild cough and panic. For symptoms of emphysema with shortness of breath, difficulty in breathing, mild coughing, panic, etc., CPT can be used.
