Can patellar dislocation heal on its own?

Patellar dislocations do not heal on their own. According to the different classifications of patellar dislocation and different causes, the healing of patellar dislocation must be promoted by treatment such as braking. For example, for traumatic dislocation, especially the first traumatic dislocation, if no osteochondral fracture is found on imaging and the patient’s movement is not too heavy, the blood in the joint cavity can be extracted through manual repositioning, pressure bandaging, and then external fixation with a cast or brace for one and a half to two months to promote patellar dislocation healing. Congenital patellar dislocation, fixed patellar dislocation, and habitual patellar dislocation often require surgical intervention to cure patellar dislocation. Depending on the type, different surgical approaches are taken. The most common type of dislocation is recurrent patellar dislocation, which often requires surgical intervention to cure. Depending on the clinical signs and symptoms, and especially on the imaging, different surgical approaches or a combination of surgical approaches can be used to facilitate the cure.
