How long can you live with diabetes?

  According to the latest diabetes map released by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) in 2017, the number of people with diabetes in China has reached 114 million, ranking first in the world, and the age of onset has been decreasing year by year in recent years. The first reaction of many people who find out that they have diabetes is panic, so how long can they live with diabetes?  In fact, diabetes itself is not fatal, although it cannot be cured according to the current state of medicine. Diabetes is a metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia. The hyperglycemic state, in turn, is caused by a defect in insulin secretion or impairment of its biological action, or both problems. The long-term presence of hyperglycemic state in diabetic patients can lead to serious complications such as chronic damage and dysfunction of various tissues and organs, especially the eyes, kidneys, heart, blood vessels and nerves, which usually eventually lead to death of diabetic patients.  So diabetic patients just need to actively control blood sugar, improve diet – to do less oil and sugar, low salt and low fat; moderate exercise – to improve the metabolic rate of the body; follow medical advice – with taking If the diabetic patients follow the doctor’s instructions and take glucose-lowering drugs or insulin injections, and if they have regular follow-up examinations and adjust the glucose-lowering program to keep their blood sugar within the normal range and reduce the chance of complications, they can basically live the same life as normal people.
