Cataracts are generally difficult to cure with traditional Chinese medicine. Clinically, the most effective treatment for cataract is still surgery. At present, the effect of Chinese medicine on cataract intervention is unclear. There is no reliable and sufficient scientific evidence or widely used clinical guidelines to prove that Chinese medicine can cure cataract. It is difficult to generalize as Chinese medicine treatment emphasizes individuality and evidence-based treatment. The treatment of cataract is still based on surgical intervention. In the early stage of cataract, when there is no visual impact, light avoidance, sun protection, and supplementation of vitamins and other nutrients to improve antioxidant capacity can be taken to slow down the condition. When cataract meets the indications for surgery, cataract extraction combined with IOL implantation is the mostly preferred surgical method of intervention. Cataract patients should go to regular hospitals in time for reasonable examination and treatment.
