Shoulder shrugging and neck shrinking in babies are caused by children with childhood tic disorder. Childhood tic disorder is a very common neurological disorder in children. It is more common in school-age children, mostly starting around the age of 3-5, and gradually worsening as the disease progresses. The most common symptoms are eye blinking, nose shrugging, shoulder shrugging, neck shrinking, etc. Some children also have abnormal throat sounds and other clinical manifestations. In severe cases, children may have other complications such as ADHD, mood disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and conduct disorder. These complications can make the tics difficult to control and some may worsen as the child gets older. Therefore, it is important for children with this condition to be seen promptly at the neurology department of a children’s hospital.
