The causes of low heart rate have four aspects: physiologic factors, cardiogenic diseases, non-cardiogenic systemic diseases, and drug effects.
1. Physiological causes. Heart rate lower than 60 beats/minute can be diagnosed as low heart rate. Weak women, soldiers, athletes and other people engaged in long-term physical activities, the average heart rate will appear to slow down, and these are physiological phenomena leading to low heart rate.
2. Diseases of cardiac origin. Sick sinus node syndrome, severe atrioventricular block and other cardiac arrhythmias can lead to low heart rate.
3. Non-cardiac diseases. Hypothyroidism, severe electrolyte disorders, acute cerebrovascular and traumatic brain injuries resulting in damage to the cardiovascular center may result in low heart rate.
4. Drug effects. Taking beta-blockers such as metoprolol may produce the adverse effect of low heart rate.
If frequent low heart rate occurs, consult a doctor in time, clarify the cause under the guidance of the doctor, and actively treat it.
