Liver ascites and liver cancer are two different concepts, liver ascites is not necessarily liver cancer, but liver cancer may cause liver ascites. Hepatic ascites is a chronic liver disease with specific causes including liver disease, liver vascular disease, hypoproteinemia, such as viral hepatitis, cirrhosis, liver tumor, portal vein thrombosis, inferior vena cava obstruction syndrome, celiac disease, etc. Patients with repeated liver damage and progressive disease can develop into cirrhosis and further manifestations of decompensated stage, which can cause ascites. Hepatocellular carcinoma refers to malignant tumors of the liver. Patients with intermediate or advanced hepatocellular carcinoma usually show signs of ascites, and large amount of ascites can cause abdominal bulging. Therefore, liver ascites may not necessarily be liver cancer, but may also be caused by other reasons. Relevant examination should be done to clarify the cause of ascites and give reasonable treatment. Patients with hepatic ascites should take reasonable rest to facilitate the recovery of heart, liver and kidney functions and promote the regression of ascites. In terms of diet, arrangements should be made according to the cause of the disease, such as protein and vitamin supplementation for patients with hypoproteinemia.
