Vasomotor rhinitis is a neurotransmitter-mediated inflammatory disease of the nasal mucosa induced by non-specific stimuli. The disease is predominant in young adults and appears to be more common in women than men. Environmental factors such as temperature, air pressure and irritating gases can stimulate the nasal mucosal nerves and trigger nasal symptoms, which can lead to nasal itching, often accompanied by nasal congestion and runny nose. It can occur all year round and is not associated with the period of dispersal of common allergens, especially pollen.
