Colds are usually caused by viral invasion of the nasal mucosa when the body’s resistance is poor, leading to inflammation of the mucosa, which in turn stimulates the sensory nerve endings and leads to nasal itching, which usually appears at the beginning of the patient’s cold and returns to normal once the cold has recovered.
