Cough variant asthma is generally not completely curable, but long-term standardized treatment can lead to good or complete clinical control in most patients. Cough variant asthma is a specific type of asthma in which the patient’s main or only symptom is a chronic persistent dry cough, a common cause of chronic cough. However, cough variant asthma is essentially a form of asthma, mainly related to chronic inflammation of the airways, airway hyperresponsiveness, and is generally difficult to completely cure. However, the vast majority of patients with cough variant asthma can achieve good or complete clinical control through long-term standardized treatment. Most patients can be treated with inhaled low-dose glucocorticosteroids combined with long-acting β2 agonists such as budesonide formoterol, leukotriene modulators such as montelukast, extended-release theophylline such as aminophylline, and, if necessary, short-term oral administration of small doses of hormones such as prednisone. If the diagnosis is cough variant asthma, it is recommended that the patient under the guidance of a professional doctor to standardize the use of medication, and not to stop or change the medication on their own.
