The mechanism of occurrence is not completely clear. Current research shows that the performance of white and wrinkled hands after soaking in water is not simply caused by the cells of the stratum corneum absorbing water and swelling, but is a nerve-led, unconscious reaction caused by vasoconstriction that appears on the skin of hands and feet. Usually after a period of time without contact with water, it can recover on its own and does not affect human health. Many people think that the water “soaks” the skin on the surface of the hands and causes the white wrinkles, but in fact, only the inner skin of the fingers and toes will show this phenomenon. The study found that the nerve paralysis of the hand does not appear after soaking the wrinkled response, indicating that the appearance of wrinkles is not completely passive, but a physiological phenomenon controlled by the nerves. Fingers are controlled by the autonomic nervous system, when the skin is immersed in water for a period of time, the autonomic nervous system will issue the appropriate instructions, making the subcutaneous tissue vasoconstriction, reducing the volume, and at this time the skin surface area remains unchanged, so it will produce wrinkling in the hands. This is the main reason for the wrinkled skin and white color after hand soaking. A few people’s hands after a short soaking in hot or cold water, in addition to whitening, wrinkled performance, there will be translucent white or yellow edematous papules, plaques, sometimes also visible dilated sweat gland pores, can be accompanied by pain, itching and other symptoms of the hands, and in 30-60 minutes after wiping dry, the above symptoms can disappear, for waterborne acrodermatitis. The disease is relatively rare, mostly female onset, there is no special treatment, it is recommended to seek medical advice in a timely manner, follow medical advice on the use of symptomatic drugs.
