Job’s tears is the alias of Coix Seed. It can be used to treat athlete’s foot, edema, dampness paralysis and constriction, diarrhea due to a deficiency of the spleen, dysuria (unruly urine), and lung carbuncle. Note that it is not suitable for those with spleen deficiency without dampness and dry stools. Poria has the effects of inducing diuresis and seepage of dampness, strengthening the spleen and stomach, and tranquilizing the mind. It can be used to treat dysuria, edema, phlegm-drinking palpitations (dizziness and palpitations caused by phlegm-drinking evil qi), tiredness and fatigue, deficiency of the spleen with scanty food and loose stools, restlessness of the heart and mind, palpitations and insomnia, and so on. It should be noted that people with qi deficiency and coldness should be cautious of using it. Ginger has the effects of relieving cold (removing cold from the muscle surface), warming the stomach and stopping vomiting (treating vomiting caused by stomach cold by warming the spleen and stomach), resolving phlegm and relieving cough, and is used for treating wind-cold cold, vomiting and coughing with cold stomach and phlegm. The active ingredients of Chinese herbal medicines in tea are limited, so it can’t have the same effect as decocted medicines in treating diseases.
