What to do if you get iron filings in your eyes

When encountering iron filings into the eyes, do not panic, do not rub your eyes with your hands, forcefully close your eyes, and try to stabilize your emotions. Find moving water and rinse your eyes with running water to get the iron filings at the surface out of the corners of your eyes.
If it is still worse after rinsing and you can’t see clearly. It is possible that the iron filings have gotten deeper into the eye, or that the iron filings have not completely drained out. At this point, the iron filings may have entered the cornea or conjunctiva, or even deeper, and it is recommended to go to the emergency room as soon as possible.
The emergency physician will look under a slit lamp microscope and if the iron filings are deeper in the cornea, anterior chamber, etc., surgical removal of the iron filings will be necessary. Avoid causing infections on the eye surface and in the eye.
