The thyroid gland is an endocrine organ and is located below the thyroid cartilage. The thyroid gland is a very important endocrine organ. In mammals, it is located in the neck below the thyroid cartilage, on both sides of the trachea, and consists of the right and left lobes, the conus lobes, and the isthmus. The parenchyma of the thyroid gland consists of many thyroid follicles, and the epithelial cells of the follicles are capable of synthesizing, storing, and secreting thyroid hormones; there is also another type of endocrine cell in the thyroid gland, i.e., the parafollicular cells, which are capable of producing calcitonin, which regulates the calcium balance in the body, and which is capable of decreasing the serum calcium when it is elevated. It is recommended to go to the hospital if you feel abnormalities or discomfort in the thyroid gland.
