Can I get rabies vaccination without being bitten by a dog?

Rabies vaccination can be given without a dog bite. Rabies vaccination can be given to two types of recipients, namely post-bite prophylaxis and no-bite prophylaxis. Since rabies is a lethal disease with a mortality rate of nearly 100%, preventive rabies vaccination should be given immediately after being bitten or scratched by a dog or other animal that may carry the rabies virus. Generally, one dose of the vaccine should be given at 0, 3, 7, 14, and 28 days after the injury, and for severe bites, a combination of anti-rabies serum should be administered. Rabies vaccine can also be given prophylactically to healthy people who have not been bitten by a dog, such as staff in infected areas where there is a high risk of bite injury or where there is a chance of exposure to rabies virus.
