The most common diagnosis for a yellow, crusty scalp would be impetigo, commonly known as yellow water sores, a very common infectious skin disease of the septicoccus bacteria. It is characterized by the occurrence of papules, blisters or pustules that break easily and form yellow pustules, is contagious by contact, spreads relatively rapidly, and is generally more prevalent among children. Basically, staphylococcal infections are the most common, with the majority of pathogens being Staphylococcus aureus, followed by Staphylococcus albus, and a few being Streptococcus hemolyticus, and mixed infections can also occur. Yellow water sores are usually prevalent in summer and fall, with the highest incidence in sweaty, hot weather, and are generally more common in children between the ages of 2 and 7. Treatment starts with paying attention to personal hygiene, keeping the skin clean, and treating various skin diseases in a timely manner. Patients should be isolated and used clothes, towels and personal utensils should be disinfected. In general, antibacterial treatment is given, including oral antibiotics for internal use and topical neomycin ointment or mupirocin ointment and glyburide lotion for external use.
