Will the sequelae of a compression fracture last a lifetime?

Whether the sequelae of compression fracture will be accompanied by a lifetime is mainly determined by the degree of damage of the compression fracture, patients with relatively mild damage generally will not, and patients with more serious damage may be.
1. Mild patients: Compression fracture mostly occurs in the vertebral body, generally caused by the vertebral body suffered vertical external force. If the degree of vertebral compression is mild, for example, the height of vertebral compression is less than 1/3 or there is no accompanying serious injury to the posterior longitudinal ligament or nerves, generally speaking, after absolute bed rest, reduce swelling, promote bone healing treatment or percutaneous vertebroplasty, most patients can fully recover.
2. Serious patients: If the degree of vertebral compression is more serious, such as vertebral compression of more than 1/2 or vertebral burst fracture accompanied by posterior longitudinal ligament and nerve injury, the possibility of sequelae after regular systematic treatment is relatively high, including traumatic arthritis, numbness and weakness of the lower limbs, and paraplegia in serious patients.
After timely treatment, the prognosis of compression fracture is generally good and there is no need to worry too much. If a compression fracture is diagnosed, early and standardized treatment is recommended to reduce the adverse effects of the disease.
