Cetirizine hydrochloride does not contain hormones. Cetirizine hydrochloride is an anti-allergy drug that is used clinically for the treatment of seasonal, or perennial, allergic rhinitis, and also for the treatment of allergic diseases such as conjunctivitis, pruritus, and urticaria. Cetirizine hydrochloride is a selective histamine H1 receptor antagonist and is weakly antagonistic to choline and 5-hydroxytryptamine, so it causes less gastrointestinal side effects such as dry mouth. Cetirizine hydrochloride also has less inhibitory effect on the center, so it has less central side effects such as drowsiness and fatigue. In contrast, hormones mainly play an anti-allergic role by inhibiting the release of inflammatory mediators and enhancing the body’s ability to tolerate inflammatory mediators. Cetirizine hydrochloride and hormones are two types of anti-allergic drugs with completely different mechanisms of action.
