Honey that has expired for several years and has crystallized is generally not recommended for consumption.
Honey has a shelf life like any other food, and having expired for several years means that it has been expired for a longer period of time, and its nutritional value, with the loss of time, may decline, especially some of the vitamins in it are easy to oxidize when it comes into contact with air for a long period of time.
At the same time, expired honey may cause some flora, such as Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Clostridium botulinum and so on exceeding the standard, which may cause bacterial food poisoning after consumption.
Although some honey may be edible after a few years of expiration, it is recommended not to consume it for the sake of food safety as it cannot be judged with the naked eye as well as taste.
Each 100 grams of honey contains 321 calories, including 82.12 grams of carbohydrates, 0.4 grams of protein, 1.9 grams of fat, 4 milligrams of calcium and 1 milligram of iron. Moderate consumption can quickly provide the body with carbohydrates and replenish energy.
However, diabetics should not ingest honey, and ordinary people should not consume it in excess, as it can easily lead to obesity and other problems. Infants and young children under one year of age are prohibited from consuming honey.
