Chronic pharyngitis generally belongs to the category of Chinese medicine “throat paralysis”, the treatment of chronic pharyngitis can drink Zhi Bai Di Huang Tang, nourishing yin and clearing the lung soup, tonifying the middle and benefiting the qi soup, the annexed zi li zhong pills, beimu gua vulgaris and so on.
The main clinical manifestations of this disease are foreign body sensation in the pharynx, choking discomfort and other symptoms. If there is dryness in the pharynx, which is heavier in the afternoon, the mucosa is dark red and dry, and there is dry cough with little sputum, etc., the disease can be recognized as lung yin deficiency and treated with Nourishing Yin and Clearing Lung Soup plus subtractions.
If there is self-consciousness of a foreign body in the throat, burning pain, heat in the hands and feet, night sweating (sweating abnormally after going to sleep and stopping after waking up), and red tongue with little moss, then it can be recognized as a case of kidney yin deficiency and fire exuberance, and can be treated with Zhi Bai Di Huang Wan (知柏地黄丸) with additional subtractions.
If the throat is choked and unfavorable, the throat is dry and slightly painful, the mouth is dry and does not want to drink water, nausea, acid reflux, tiredness and fatigue, the tongue is pale, the moss is white and the pulse is weak. This is recognized as weakness of spleen qi (weakness of spleen qi), and can be treated with tonifying the middle and benefiting qi soup with additional subtractions.
If there is foreign body sensation in the pharynx, slightly dry and painful, choking and unfavorable, pale red pharyngeal mucosa, accompanied by sputum and saliva, pale face, cold body, cold limbs, lumbar and knee cold pain, frequent and long nocturnal urination, abdominal distension, poor appetite, and diarrhea and clearing of cereals, then it can be identified as spleen and kidney yang deficiency syndrome. Treatment is based on the addition and subtraction of Radix Rehmanniae Pill.
If there is foreign body sensation in the pharynx, phlegm sticking sensation, inflammation and heat sensation, or slight pain in the pharynx, dry pharynx with no desire to drink, dark redness of pharyngeal mucous membrane, increased particles at the base of the throat or fusion of particles into a piece, hypertrophy of pharyngeal lateral cords, easy to nausea and vomiting, chest tightness and discomfort, then it can be identified as phlegm coagulation and blood stasis syndrome. Treatment with the addition and subtraction of Bei Mu Gua Puzu San is recommended.
