Is high muscle tone cerebral palsy?

Pediatric cerebral palsy, commonly known as cerebral palsy. Sometimes the concept of cerebral palsy may be confused with hypertonia, for example, some parents of children with cerebral palsy ask if hypertonia is cerebral palsy. Actually, no, these are two completely different concepts. Cerebral palsy is a common central nervous system disorder syndrome in pediatrics. It is a syndrome of postural and motor dysfunction caused by non-progressive brain injury during the immature stage of brain development from one month after birth. Cerebral palsy can be characterized by high muscle tone and other dysfunctions, while other diseases besides cerebral palsy can also be characterized by high muscle tone. Cerebral palsy causes hypertonia, which is also called spastic cerebral palsy and is the most common and predominant type of cerebral palsy, accounting for approximately 70% or more of all cerebral palsy. This type of patient usually presents with abnormal body posture and limb motor dysfunction. For example, inward thumb clasping, elbow flexion, poor fist clenching, forearm rotation forward, pointed feet, crossed legs, knee flexion, supinated toe deformity, etc. In addition to these signs of hypertonia, there are also many patients with mental deficiency, epilepsy, behavioral abnormalities, psychiatric disorders and visual, auditory and speech disorders. For these children, parents should take their children to the hospital for examination and treatment as soon as they find similar symptoms, as early treatment is more beneficial to the child’s recovery. At the same time, the treatment should also be well grasped, usually the general local hospital may carry out more motor therapy, drug therapy, etc., but these are often not effective. At present, neurosurgery can take the way of minimally invasive surgery for neuromodulation to improve various symptoms of children, such as peripheral nerve narrowing, selective posterior crestal nerve root cut, carotid sympathetic nerve net stripping, etc., which can achieve good treatment results.
