How to Drain Middle Ear Fluid

When suffering from otitis media, the condition can be severe enough to cause fluid to accumulate in the middle ear, which can be drained by tympanocentesis, tympanotomy, mastoidectomy and other methods.
1. Tympanocentesis: When the pus is small and thin, it can be extracted by puncturing only the anterior lower quadrant of the tense part of the eardrum.
2. Tympanotomy: when the pus in the middle ear tympanic membrane is too thick to be extracted, the tympanic membrane can be cut open to discharge the pus, and ventilation tubes can be placed in case of repeated accumulation of pus.
3. Radical mastoidectomy: The purpose of eliminating middle ear effusion is achieved by removing the diseased tissues of mastoid and tympanic sinus.
It is recommended to choose the appropriate treatment according to the specific classification of otitis media under the guidance of the doctor.
