What if a pregnant woman has facial paralysis?

There are many causes of facial paralysis in pregnant women, such as idiopathic facial nerve palsy, intracranial space-occupying lesions, acute cerebrovascular disease, etc., which should be treated according to the specific causes.
1. Idiopathic facial nerve palsy: If idiopathic facial nerve palsy is considered, glucocorticoid treatment can be given as prescribed by the doctor, and at the same time, nutritive drugs such as methylcobalamin and vitamin B12 can be taken orally, and acupuncture and physiotherapy can be given to promote the recovery of neural function after the acute stage for 1 week.
2. Intracranial space-occupying lesions: If the presence of intracranial space-occupying lesions is considered, as cranial CT should not be done during pregnancy, cranial magnetic resonance examination can be perfected, and according to the location of the mass, size and so on, the surgeon should evaluate whether or not to carry out surgical treatment.
3. Acute cerebrovascular disease: head magnetic resonance examination should be perfected under professional doctor’s guidance. If it is cerebral infarction, aspirin and clopidogrel should be used for anti-platelet aggregation, atorvastatin should be used for stabilizing plaques and controlling blood pressure; if it is cerebral hemorrhage, bed rest should be used and blood pressure should be controlled.
4. Other causes: Rare diseases such as Guillain-Barré can also cause facial paralysis in pregnant women, which need to be diagnosed by electromyography, lumbar puncture and other corresponding examinations and then treated.
If facial paralysis occurs during pregnancy, it is necessary to go to regular hospitals for further clarification of the cause of the disease and actively cooperate with the treatment.
