When does amblyopia strabismus

If amblyopia is not treated in a timely manner, corrected vision tends to be poor, and if there is a chronic imbalance of vision between the two eyes, it can lead to strabismus. This strabismus is often an exotropia, a wasting exotropia due to poor vision in the amblyopic eye. This type of exotropia can be corrected surgically, but the rate of recurrence after surgical correction can be high. This recurrence rate is also due to poor vision, which means that both eyes will prioritize the dominant eye, the eye with better vision, and forgo the use of the poorer eye when looking at something. If amblyopia is detected, it needs to be treated early and aggressively so that it can be improved or the gap between the two eyes can be narrowed through treatment to avoid the development of disabling esotropia.
