How many days of rest are usual for gallbladder removal

Usually patients are given a rest period of 3-5 days after cholecystectomy, which can be extended to 1 week depending on the patient.

Cholecystectomy belongs to the basic biliary surgery, mainly laparoscopic cholecystectomy, the operation time is 30-60 minutes, the bleeding volume is 3-5mL, and the damage and impact on the human body is small.

Patients recover more rapidly and can be discharged to home for rest on the 2nd day after surgery. Some hospitals can also adopt day surgery for treatment, i.e., they can go home on the same day after surgery.

Usually, patients recover quickly after the operation and can eat a semi-liquid diet such as rice and noodles on the second day after the operation, and then transition to a basic normal diet on the fourth day.

If the patient is relatively weak or old, the rest period can be extended to 1 week. Overall, after about 1 week’s recuperation, the patient’s body can be restored to the same state as before the operation.

Patients are advised to pay attention to their diet during the recovery period and avoid spicy and stimulating foods.
