How risky is surgery for adrenal adenomas

Surgery for adrenal adenomas is risky. Adrenal tumors can be divided into functional and non-functional tumors.

The general surgery for non-functional tumors is relatively safe, and most of them can be done with minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery, with little injury and fast recovery.

Functional tumors can be divided into Cushing’s syndrome, primary aldosterone syndrome, adrenal syndrome, pheochromocytoma and so on.

Pheochromocytoma can secrete large amounts of adrenaline and norepinephrine, causing paroxysmal hypertension. During surgery, hemodynamics may fluctuate dramatically and there is some risk during surgery, but the surgeon will prepare for the patient’s specific situation and reduce the risk before surgery.

Adrenal adenomas can be performed laparoscopically, which generally provides a clearer view and rarely damages the surrounding organs as well as blood vessels, so the risks of adrenal adenoma surgery are relatively low.
