How many doses of penicillin are needed for tonsillitis?

Tonsillitis preferred penicillin anti-infective treatment, routinely for intravenous infusion of the use of the dose, need to be based on adults, pediatrics, preterm infants, renal hypoplasia, and other different situations to choose.
1. Adults: intravenous drip, 2 million to 20 million units a day ( 0.25 to 2.5 ), divided into 2 to 4 times.
2. Pediatrics: Intravenous drip, 50,000~200,000 units/kg per day according to body weight, administered in 2~4 times.
3. Neonates (full-term): 50,000 units/kg per dose according to body weight, intramuscular injection or intravenous drip; every 12 hours during the first week of life, every 8 hours for more than one week, and every 6 hours for severe infections.
4. Preterm infants: 30,000 units/kg per time according to body weight, once every 12 hours in the first week of life, once every 8 hours for those who are 2-4 weeks old, and once every 6 hours thereafter.
5. Renal hypoplasia: no dose reduction is required for mild or moderate renal impairment using conventional doses; the dosing interval should be extended or the dose adjusted for severe renal impairment.
(1) When the endogenous creatinine clearance is 10-50 ml/min, the dosing interval should be extended from 8 hours to 8-12 hours or the dosing interval should be unchanged and the dose should be reduced by 25%;
(2) When the endogenous creatinine clearance is less than 10 ml/min, the dosing interval is extended to 12-18 hours or each dose is reduced to 25%-50% of the normal dose with no change in the dosing interval.
If patients with tonsillitis need to use penicillin infusion therapy, they need to follow the doctor’s instructions to standardize the use of medication.
