Barrett’s esophagus (Barrett’s esophagus) is a lesion at the lower end of the esophagus, which is closely associated with mostly reflux esophagitis and has the potential for cancer. The disease is seen clinically in middle-aged and elderly people. Symptoms are mainly caused by GERD and complications, and GERD symptoms are burning sensation behind the sternum, chest pain and regurgitation. Serious complications can occur. Benign complications include reflux esophagitis, esophageal stricture, ulcer, perforation, hemorrhage and aspiration pneumonia. Clinical diagnosis of the disease: It should be based on the patient’s history, clinical manifestations, esophageal manometry, pH monitoring, endoscopy and biopsy, of which the most diagnostic method is endoscopy and biopsy. The aim of treatment of the disease: is to control GERD, relieve symptoms, prevent and control complications and reduce the risk of malignant transformation. It can be treated medically or surgically. However, the prognosis is poor. Prevention of the disease: There is no special way to prevent the disease. The main purpose of life is to change bad habits, such as reducing the intake of stimulating diet, elevating the head of the bed, quitting smoking and alcohol, avoiding foods such as chocolate that inhibit the tone of the lower esophageal sphincter, and avoiding overweight body.
