If the ear itches when lying down, the following conditions are clinically considered: 1. cerumen embolism, when the patient lies down, due to cerumen changes, it may induce irritation of the ear canal as well as the tympanic membrane, thus manifesting as itchy ears. 2. the patient has ear canal eczema, when the patient lies down, due to the stimulation of eczema exudate, itchy ears may occur. 3. fungal otitis externa, such a patient has ear canal inside of fungal infection. When the patient lies down, the itching may be aggravated due to the stimulation of fungal secretions and the stimulation of fungal masses. In conclusion, it is recommended that the patient go to an ENT clinic to have the ear canal and eardrum examined to see which disease the patient is suffering from and to treat it symptomatically. If it is cerumen embolism, remove the cerumen. If it is fungal otitis externa, topical antifungal medication can be applied clinically. If it is eczema, topical anti-allergy medication can be applied topically for symptomatic treatment.
