Do not use if the spleen and stomach are weak and cold, or if the intestines are slippery and make leakage; it should not be used with turtle shell in the decoction bait formula.
It is often used in congee with round-grained rice for heat-poisoned blood dysentery; with Scutellaria baicalensis and Rhizoma Coptidis for abdominal pain and diarrhea, and for the feeling of urgency and heaviness afterward (discomfort in the lower abdomen, wanting to relieve stools, and feeling a sense of incomplete defecation after defecation); and decocted in soup for internal and external cleansing for the use in blood-heat toxicity and dandenong (an acute infectious disease in which the skin turns red like pigmented), with pain and swelling. Combined with Di Yu and Feng Wei Cao, it is used for damp-heat in the large intestine and so on.
