Prolactinopituitary tumor, also known as pituitary lactinoma, is a clinical medical diagnosis. Usually, it does not heal completely on its own without treatment. Unlike physiologic hyperprolactinemia, which occurs in some cases, physiologic hyperprolactinemia occurs only during certain periods, such as pregnancy or breastfeeding. After this period, the prolactin level in the blood drops on its own. However, if hyperprolactinemia is caused by a pituitary prolactinoma, only medication or surgery or radiation therapy can reduce the level of prolactin in the blood to some extent. Without treatment, hyperprolactinemia and the symptoms caused by a pituitary tumor will not resolve on their own, so treatment is necessary.
