How long it takes to be discharged from the hospital after minimally invasive prostate surgery depends on the patient’s postoperative recovery. If the patient does not have complications such as secondary urinary tract infections after the surgery, he or she can usually be discharged from the hospital in about a week, and if the patient develops urinary tract infections, he or she may need to stay in the hospital for a longer period of time, and can be discharged from the hospital only when he or she has fully recovered. Complications such as bleeding, urethral injury, urethral perforation, bladder injury and cystitis may occur after minimally invasive prostate surgery. Most patients will have a small amount of bleeding and minor urethral injury and bladder injury, which can usually be recovered within one week after surgery, so most patients can be discharged from the hospital in about one week after surgery. If the patient still has symptoms of bleeding after one week or develops a secondary infection, such as cystitis, the hospital stay will need to be extended and the patient will not be discharged until the bleeding or infection has resolved. If minimally invasive prostate surgery was performed, follow your doctor’s instructions for discharge.
