What to do about flatulence in adults

Flatulence in adults is considered to be caused by dyspepsia, gastrointestinal insufficiency, acute and chronic enteritis, intestinal flora imbalance, gastrointestinal dysfunction, intestinal obstruction and so on. Generally speaking, we should give medicines to promote gastric power, digestion and intestinal flora in combination with symptoms and etiology. Surgery may be needed for flatulence caused by intestinal obstruction or intestinal perforation.
1. Emergency treatment: intestinal obstruction, intestinal perforation and other causes of intestinal flatulence mostly require surgical treatment, acute peritonitis is mainly treated with medication.
(1) Drug therapy:Relieve the patient’s symptoms, the drugs used include antipyretic and analgesic (aspirin, etc.), antibiotic therapy (quinolones, etc.), etc.
(2) Maintaining water-salt-electrolyte balance: physiologic fluids, high sugar or sugar saline can be fed intravenously as needed.
(3) Surgical treatment: resection of obstructed necrotic or perforated intestinal tubes to alleviate the cause of inflammatory reaction.
2. Conventional treatment: etiologic treatment
(1) Surgery: such as intestinal obstruction, intestinal strangulation, intestinal perforation. Commonly used surgeries such as obstruction removal, resection of obstructed bowel segments, resection of perforated bowel segments, and so on.
(2) Drugs: such as dyspepsia, intestinal dyskinesia, chronic enteritis, acute enteritis and other diseases are often treated with drugs. Commonly used drugs, such as antibiotics (quinolones and cephalosporins), to promote digestion (digestive enzymes), intestinal probiotics (bifidobacteria), to promote gastrointestinal dynamics of the drug (Moxapride).
(3) Others:In some patients, intestinal flatulence is associated with psychological tension and anxiety. Psychotherapy is also needed.
Adult intestinal flatulence is also seen in eating too much gas-producing food, cold abdomen, etc. If intestinal flatulence persists without relief, it is recommended to consult a doctor immediately, complete the relevant examinations, clarify the cause of the disease, and give targeted treatment.
