Can Huang Lian be combined with Xiao Chai Hu?



Huang Lian can be combined with Xiao Chai Hu. There is no contraindication to the combination of Huang Lian and Xiao Chai Hu; Huang Lian is a heat-clearing and dampness-drying medicine, and Xiao Chai Hu is a conciliatory formula for Shao Yang (treating external heat illnesses in which the evil is half-expression and half-li), and Huang Lian and Xiao Chai Hu can be combined in the case of cold-heat exchanges (the body is hot and cold at the same time) of typhoid fever and Shao Yang (a type of typhoid fever, which is one of six meridians, and is in the area of the epidermis), and the combination of damp-heat syndrome.

Huanglian is bitter and cold, and goes to the heart, spleen, stomach, gallbladder and large intestine meridians. The ingredients of Xiao Chai Hu formula include Chai Hu, Scutellaria baicalensis, Ginseng, Radix et Rhizoma Pinelliae, Radix et Rhizoma Glycyrrhizae, Ginger and Jujubae. There is no contraindication to combining Huang Lian with Xiao Chai Hu drug ingredients, so they can be combined together.

Huanglian is a heat-clearing and dampness-drying (removing heat and drying dampness), fire-dispersing and detoxifying (removing fire and toxicity in the body) medicine, and is used for damp-heat symptoms such as gastric plumpness (stomach distension and discomfort), vomiting and acid swallowing (swallowing of acid in the stomach upward to the mouth and pharynx), and feverish, disturbed, and insomniac (disturbed heat in the heart and insomniac symptoms) symptoms.

Xiao Chai Hu Fang is for external evils entering the Shaoyang meridian, the meridian qi is unfavorable, and it becomes heat (evil qi staying for too long is transformed into heat), bile-heat offending the stomach, and the stomach is out of harmony and subdue (the stomach’s pass-through-subdue function is impaired), leading to a variety of cold and heat exchanges with symptoms, such as heartburn, vomiting, and not wanting to eat.

Xiao Chai Hu formula can be combined with Huang Lian when there is a combination of Damp-Heat syndrome.

The combination of Huang Lian and Xiao Chai Hu should be used under the guidance of a doctor to identify the symptoms, and the combination can be reasonably added or subtracted to avoid the adverse effects of incorrect medication.
