The incidence of cerebrovascular disease is so high and the impact is so bad, but there are many misconceptions about this kind of disease, and people cannot prevent and treat it correctly, which leads to the delay of the disease.
1, so dangerous, how to predict it?
If you or your family members occur in these cases, you must be alert and seek medical attention early: weakness, heaviness or numbness in one limb; numbness or crookedness in one side of the face; slurred speech or problems understanding language; two eyes staring to one side; loss or blurring of vision in one or both eyes; seeing things rotate, walking unsteadily; rare severe headache, vomiting.
2.Do you know these misconceptions?
Myth 1: Misconception that more movement must be beneficial to health
Fact: Inappropriate exercise will have more risks
When we treat patients in the clinic, we find that many elderly people are in the morning exercise when they have a sudden onset of hemiplegia. Many of them also suffer from chronic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes and hyperlipidemia, and the early morning to morning is the high incidence of cerebrovascular diseases.
In cold weather, especially prone to cerebral infarction, if you get up too early to exercise, strenuous exercise, blood will increase in the distribution of limb muscles, reduced blood supply to the brain, more likely to induce cerebral infarction. Therefore, the elderly should not exercise too early, the degree should not be strenuous, should be moderate exercise.
Myth 2: Excessive superstition in health care products
The truth: standardized medication is the right way
The quality of the ingredients of health care products is yet to be regulated, and even high-quality health care products are only therapeutic aids, not drugs, and cannot be used as the only and main means of disease prevention.
Misconception 3: Wrongly believe that Chinese medicine has no side effects and Western medicine has many side effects
Fact: The side effects of western drugs are clearly labeled only to indicate the possibility of occurrence, while the ingredients and efficacy of Chinese herbal medicines are yet to be proven.
People often think that Chinese herbal medicines are “natural” and have no toxic side effects, so they are more willing to use them to treat diseases such as hypertension and diabetes, but really effective antihypertensive drugs and hypoglycemic drugs (or insulin) are rejected by people just because there are a lot of clear side effects on the instructions of western medicines, while Chinese medicines have no “side effects”.
In fact, there are not many cases of serious side effects (heart failure, kidney failure, etc.) when using Chinese medicine, especially those with unknown ingredients, and the fact that Western medicine continues to be used despite having “so many” side effects shows its efficacy.
A western drug must be marketed after animal testing, toxicology testing, clinical validation and other steps, and all side effects must be written in the drug’s manual. Unfortunately, many patients are too frightened to take drugs when they see so many possible side effects, which in reality only represent “possibilities” and have a particularly low chance of occurrence.
The toxicological research of many Chinese medicines is not sufficient, which makes the drug instructions of proprietary Chinese medicines seem less “scary”, but this does not mean that there is no danger.
Myth 4: The faster and lower the blood pressure, the better the effect
Fact: Blood pressure should be lowered in moderation
High blood pressure can easily cause brain infarction, but there is also a risk of brain infarction if blood pressure is lowered too quickly or too low.
The brain tissue of patients with chronic hypertension has already adapted to the high blood pressure level, if the blood pressure is lowered to normal level too quickly, it will promote cerebral ischemia and lead to the occurrence of cerebral infarction. Therefore, it is not advisable to lower blood pressure too fast or too low, and to avoid large fluctuations in blood pressure.
Myth 5: Ignore the rehabilitation treatment in the acute stage of cerebrovascular disease
Fact: Treatment and rehabilitation are equally important
For a long time, China’s large general hospitals have focused on drug treatment for patients in the acute stage of cerebrovascular disease, and almost no real rehabilitation treatment has been carried out, missing the best time for rehabilitation. Many patients only save their lives but are left with serious disabilities and low quality of survival.
Myth 6: Ignore the concept of long-term, regular medication
Fact: Standardized medication can treat and prevent
The treatment of cerebrovascular disease is long-term and systematic, and is never limited to a single hospital treatment. Patients continue treatment after discharge from hospital, and need to establish the awareness of long-term medication, such as long-term small-dose aspirin treatment, anticoagulation treatment for patients with atrial fibrillation, long-term application of antihypertensive, hypoglycemic, plaque stabilizing and lipid-regulating drugs, and pay attention to post-stroke rehabilitation treatment, regular review of neck ultrasound, intracranial vascular ( TCD or MRA ) situation, etc.
Hypertension, diabetes, and arterial stenosis require long-term medication. In the face of diseases that cannot be cured, it is important to learn to live with the disease and take medication for a long time. A considerable number of patients think that if their blood pressure is not high, they do not need to take antihypertensive medication or take antihypertensive medication only when their blood pressure is high, and if their blood sugar is not high, they do not need glucose-lowering medication. Some even stop using antihypertensive and glucose-lowering drugs on their own without consulting a doctor. In the long run, patients will develop heart, brain, kidney, retinal complications and systemic vascular disease, and then it will be too late to control the complications.
3, prevention of the three tips
First: prevention is better than cure
Healthy people are advised to quit smoking, avoid excessive alcohol consumption and eat healthy; actively prevent and treat risk factors such as atherosclerosis, hypertension, diabetes, heart disease and hyperlipidemia. Recognize the misconceptions mentioned above and actively prepare.
Second: Prevention of resurgence
Patients with cerebral infarction who have had a transient ischemic attack should be more vigilant and take active action to avoid a second attack. Treatment should be standardized and early.
At the same time, however, it is important to guard against scammers who take this opportunity to cheat. For example, it has long been circulated among patients with cerebrovascular disease: every spring and autumn, infusion is necessary. There is no scientific basis, cheat money and pit.
Third: Once the attack is treated as early as possible
Cerebrovascular disease, like heart attack, should be treated as an emergency, within a few hours after the stroke, and the concept of “time is life” should be established.
