The use of acupuncture alone does not cure trigeminal neuralgia; it can be combined with medication and moxibustion for joint treatment. Trigeminal neuralgia is a common clinical condition, confined to the area innervated by the trigeminal nerve, with severe pain, manifested by electric shock-like and tearing pain during attacks. There are two types: primary and secondary. In addition to severe pain, there may be accompanying symptoms such as tearing, drooling, runny nose, loss of facial sensation, biting weakness and paralysis of the masticatory muscles on the affected side. Treatment is preferred to medication such as oral medication carbamazepine, etc. Surgery or minimally invasive treatment can be adopted if the effect of medication is not satisfactory. In addition, acupuncture, electroacupuncture, moxibustion and other means can be used to assist in the treatment. The treatment of trigeminal neuralgia is recommended to use a combination of traditional Chinese and Western medicine to achieve better results, do not blindly use acupuncture and drugs to avoid other adverse consequences.
