The vision of a six-year-old child should usually be about 1.0. Generally speaking, children six years old and older should have the same standard of vision as adults, which is around 1.0. If the vision is significantly lower than 0.8 after a hospital examination, or if the difference in vision between the two eyes is more than two lines, a dilated eye exam is needed to determine whether the vision loss is due to farsightedness, myopia or astigmatism. If the vision loss is due to refractive problems, glasses will be required. If the vision still does not improve with glasses, there may also be some degree of amblyopia. Not only do you need glasses, but you may also need some amblyopia training and treatment.
