Statins have been in use for over 100 years, hence the name Centennial Statin. From the former pravastatin and fluvastatin to the current atorvastatin and resulvastatin, each statin has undergone rigorous evidence-based investigation and research. Currently, the two safest and most effective statins are considered internationally to be atorvastatin and resulvastatin, both of which can reduce lipid levels by more than 40% in patients with coronary artery disease when treated with a single tablet. When doubled, they can control lipid decreases of 60% or more. These two statins are not significantly related to diet and do not need to be taken after meals or at night. Therefore, atorvastatin and resevastatin have few side effects, are relatively safe, reliable, and have good patient compliance, making them more widely used in clinical practice.
