What is rheumatism?

Rheumatic diseases are a group of diseases that affect bones, joints, skin, mucous membranes, blood vessels, nerves and soft tissues such as muscles, tendons and fascia. According to the different pathogenesis and clinical characteristics, rheumatic diseases are currently classified internationally into 10 major categories with more than 100 diseases in total. The pathogenesis of rheumatic diseases is still unclear, and genetic, infectious, sex hormone, endocrine and environmental factors are all related to the occurrence of rheumatic diseases. Diffuse connective tissue diseases are a major group of rheumatic diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, dry syndrome, vasculitis, scleroderma, myositis, etc. The prevalence of these diseases is high, and patients are often accompanied by abnormal immune function, so rheumatic diseases are usually used to refer to these diseases. In addition, osteoarthritis and gout are also high incidences of rheumatic diseases. These diseases are caused by degenerative joint degeneration and abnormal uric acid metabolism in human body, and are generally less likely to involve abnormal immune factors. The clinical manifestations of rheumatic diseases are complex and diverse, and lack typicality. Among them, joint and muscle pain, rash, mucosal ulcers, dry mouth and eyes, and fever are more common, and they may also be accompanied by multi-system damage, such as anemia, leukocyte deficiency, thrombocytopenic purpura, proteinuria, hematuria, edema, chest and abdominal fluid, hepatosplenomegaly, liver function abnormalities, pulmonary fibrosis, headache, epilepsy, vision loss, and fundus bleeding. Some rheumatic diseases are critical and can lead to the death of the patient. Patients with rheumatic diseases mostly have different kinds of body antibodies in their blood, such as rheumatoid factor. Anti-nuclear antibodies, etc., which is often the key to the diagnosis of rheumatic diseases. Treatment, mostly drug therapy, anti-inflammatory painkillers, glucocorticoids, immunosuppressants and other more commonly used, Chinese herbal medicine also has a certain degree of efficacy. In short, rheumatism is a class of chronic diseases with a wide variety of types and complex symptoms, which are easily missed and misdiagnosed clinically.
