What is Dice Bone

The dice bones are irregularly rectangular in shape and located at the lateral edge of the foot. It is 2-3 cm wide at the middle of the dorsal surface, 2.5-3.5 cm in the anterior-posterior diameter of the medial dorsal surface, 1.3-2.0 cm in the anterior-posterior diameter of the lateral dorsal surface, and 1.5-2.0 cm thick. The anterior surface is narrower and has a vertical crest divided into two medial and lateral parts, which are associated with the fourth and fifth metatarsal bases, respectively, and the posterior surface has a saddle-like articular surface associated with the heel bone, with the lower medial angle convex to the back to support the anterior end of the heel bone. There is an oval articular surface above the middle of the medial side, which is associated with the lateral cuneus, and a posterior articular surface sometimes present to connect the navicular bone, with the rest of the medial side being rough for the attachment of the interosseous ligaments. The lateral surface is narrow, bypassed by the long tendon groove of the fibula, with a rough dorsal surface and a bony crest on the metatarsal surface, which is the attachment point of the plantar long ligament. In front of the ridge is the intermuscular groove of the peroneus longus that continues on the lateral side, with the eponymous tendon passing through.
